Background

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District is issuing an Invitation for Bids (IFB) for the Old Route 8 Bridge Painting project in Sandisfield, MA. This project is a 100% Small Business Set-Aside procurement. The estimated magnitude of the project ranges from $250,000 to $500,000. The bridge was built in 1927 and spans over the West Branch of the Farmington River. Work Details: The work involves cleaning, preparation, and painting of the Old Route 8 Bridge. The existing paint is believed to include original coatings and subsequent maintenance coatings, with the last maintenance painting performed in 2008. Full removal of coatings has never been conducted. Contractors must assume that lead-containing paint was used in the original and possibly some maintenance coatings, with high lead concentrations expected (1.0 mg/cm2 or greater). Due to this risk, contractors are required to implement worker health and safety measures and environmental protection measures as per applicable regulations.
