Military Sealift Command (MSC) seeks to identify potential sources for Standard ISO containers outfitted to store flammable material (including paint) onboard USCG certificated, ABS Classed Cargo Ships. T-AKE Class Ships.

Summary (Newest Update)

Background The Military Sealift Command (MSC) operates and maintains a fleet of 14 T-AKE Class ships. Each ship currently has four identical HAZMAT storage modules on the weather deck, which have reached the end of their service life. MSC is planning to replace these modules with new ones that comply with American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Marine Vessel Rules and 46 CFR requirements for paint lockers on SOLAS certified cargo ships. Work Details MSC seeks to identify potential sources for Standard ISO containers designed to store flammable materials, including paint. The specifications for the new modules include: - Must have the same general layout as existing modules, with a door at one end and externally mounted components at the opposite end. Long sides must not have protrusions. - Should be standard ISO 20’ Containers (high top or DNV containers preferred) with dimensions of 8’ wide x 20’ long x 9.5’ high (high top) or 8.5’ high (standard), secured to the deck by corner castings. - Not considered Portable Industrial Modules (PIMs) but must meet requirements for flammable material storerooms in shipboard spaces. - Must receive power from the ship, not exceeding 50 full load amps in normal operation. - Require a fixed, total-flooding firefighting system actuated manually and interlocked with the ventilation system to secure power and close fire dampers. - Require a junction box for connection to the shipboard fire detection system and local alarms, carrying properly segregated HAZMAT on shelves without barrels or spill containment sumps. - Design drawings and supporting calculations must be approved by ABS prior to fabrication, including heating and cooling systems, fire detection and suppression systems, and shelving that is 24” deep along both sides. Place of Performance Onboard USCG certificated, ABS Classed Cargo Ships.
