Background The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is issuing this Invitation for Bid (IFB) for the purchase of disc brake pads specifically designed for passenger rail cars. The current brake pads in use are manufactured by Bremskerl, and all NCDOT passenger railcars are equipped with 3PM Disc Brake Units on 36-inch Class C wheels, operating at speeds up to 79 miles per hour with frequent stops. Work Details The contract requires the supply of 1,800 units each of left-hand and right-hand disc brake pads, specifically Bremskerl model #2050 or an equivalent product. The brake pads must conform to the following specifications: - Made from rubber/resin bonded material - Must not contain harmful substances like lead or asbestos - Should not crumble or split during normal service They must also meet various safety standards including 49 CFR 238 and AAR Manual standards. Delivery is to be made Free-On-Board (FOB) Destination to the NCDOT Capital Yard Maintenance Facility in Raleigh, NC within fourteen (14) calendar days after receipt of a purchase order. Period of Performance The initial term of the contract will be three (3) years starting from the date of final contract execution, with potential extensions based on mutual agreement.
