Background

The Marcell Experimental Forest (MEF) is managed by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and is located in northern Minnesota. The MEF serves as a site for long-term hydrological and meteorological monitoring and scientific research. The goal of this contract is to provide research and operational support at the MEF, which includes maintaining infrastructure and assisting with scientific measurements critical to ongoing research efforts. Work Details: The contractor will perform various tasks including: 1) Maintenance of grounds and infrastructure such as weirs, shelters, support structures, stilling wells, measurement transects, runoff collectors, and boardwalks; 2) Removal of hazard trees and grading roads; 3) Brush removal to maintain trails and roads; 4) Distribution of propane tanks for heating shelters; 5) Technical consultation regarding troubleshooting and operation of hydrological instruments unique to the MEF; 6) Adherence to established protocols for continuity in long-term research; 7) Responding to emergency requests for additional measurements or repairs as needed. Approximately 87% of the work will focus on operational tasks while about 13% will involve consultation and specialized measurements. Place of Performance: Work will be conducted at dispersed outdoor sites within 10 miles of the Marcell Research Center located at 43122 Wilderness Trail, Bovey, Minnesota.
