Background

The project involves pit development of a government source for mining materials, specifically aimed at crushing pit material into a blended surface course aggregate with commercial source additives. This initiative is part of the Forest Service's efforts to maintain and improve roadway conditions within the Salmon-Challis National Forest, ensuring safe and efficient transportation routes. Work Details: The contractor will be responsible for the following tasks: 1. Perform roadway reconditioning along a project length of 7 miles from MP 21 to MP 28 of FSR 101. 2. Crush, mix, haul, and place surface course aggregate along the same project length. The work includes developing and using pits (government or commercial source) to specified gradation, adding approximately 2% bentonite by weight based on initial materials testing. Tasks include clearing and grubbing, removing overburden, mining, crushing, mixing aggregate with bentonite using a pugmill, weighing, creating stockpiles (including loading or hauling), testing, and final site reclamation (placing overburden, waste materials, mulching, and seeding). The contractor must perform all work in accordance with MSHA 30 CFR, part 56. Additionally, necessary surface preparations before placing aggregate include material and quality control testing, surface preparation (reconditioning), clearing and grubbing, spreading, watering, compacting, temporary traffic control, erosion control measures, and all other incidental work to surface the road. The surface must meet the compacted depth specified in the drawings for the full roadway width including existing turnouts and widenings. Intersecting roads shall be bladed and shaped for smooth transitions. The contractor is responsible for spread control and staking for aggregate. Place of Performance: The construction projects will be performed within the Salmon-Challis National Forest in Idaho.
