Background The Virginia Department of Corrections is seeking psychiatrist and psychiatric nurse practitioner services for Red Onion State Prison and Wallens Ridge State Prison. The goal is to provide mental health services to approximately 1,734 male inmates across both facilities, ensuring the safety and orderly operation of the prisons while adhering to the Department's mission to protect citizens and rehabilitate inmates. Work Details The Provider will deliver psychiatric care for up to 20 hours per week at each facility, totaling up to 40 hours weekly. Services may include: 1. Conducting thorough mental health assessments upon initial evaluation of inmates. 2. Providing psychopharmacological treatment and follow-up recommendations for inmates with psychiatric disorders. 3. Documenting summaries of evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment plans in each inmate's Health Record. 4. Consulting with the Chief Psychiatrist as needed regarding inmate care. 5. Referring inmates requiring additional therapy or mental health services to appropriate staff. 6. Being available for emergency consultations 24/7 by phone. 7. Utilizing telehealth capabilities when necessary, with preference for onsite services. Period of Performance The initial term of the contract will be one year, with potential renewals as outlined in the RFP. Place of Performance Services will be performed at Red Onion State Prison located at 10800 H. Jack Rose Highway, Pound, VA 24279 and Wallens Ridge State Prison located at 272 Dogwood Drive, Big Stone Gap, VA 24219. Bidder Requirements Providers must have a Doctor of Psychiatry degree from an accredited medical school, a valid license to practice in Virginia, current Board certification, DEA certificate, National Provider Identifier (NPI), and verification of hospital privileges. Proposals must include a Small Business Subcontracting Plan if applicable.
